Girls’ Generation (Korean: 소녀시대, Hanja/Chinese/Japanese: 少女時代) is a nine-member South Korean girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2007. The nine members are: Taeyeon (Leader), Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun. They are often referred to as SoShi (소시, Hanja: 少時), or SNSD; the first is an abbreviation and the second, mainly used outside Korea, is an acronym of the group’s Korean name So Nyeo Shi Dae.

The latter’s Korean title is “Wish” (소원, SoWon), which later became the name of Girls’ Generation’s official fan club, S♡NE. The group’s debut officially began on August 5, 2007, first performing on SBS Inkigayo and then later on MBC Music Core and KBS Music Bank. “Into the New World” achieved No.1 spot on M! Countdown.

Girls’ Generation has released three Korean full albums, three Korean mini-albums, one Japanese full album and various singles. Their 2009 hit single “Gee” holds the record for being the longest running No.1 song on KBS Music Bank, having held the No.1 chart ranking for 9 consecutive weeks. Gee was named song of the decade by the Korean music site, Melon. The group also won various awards in 2009 and 2010, including consecutive Artist of the Year (Daesang) awards at the Seoul Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, Melon Music Awards, and the Korean Cultural Entertainment Awards.

The group began a foray into the Japanese music scene in late 2010 under Nayutawave Records, a part of Universal Music, with the Japanese remakes of their 2009 Korean hits “Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)” and “Gee”. Setting their sights on the international market, Girls’ Generation signed a contract with Universal Music Group under Interscope Records in 2011.

Inilah GB Pertama yang author kenal saat mulai mengenal dunia KPOP. Awalnya emang lebih tau Sunbae-nya dulu yaitu Super Junior, baru setelah itu kenal SNSD. MV Gee adalah MV pertama SNSD yang buat saia ingin mengenal kesembilan gadis cantik ini. Ga sampe seminggu saia bisa mengenali wajah member-member SNSD (yaa iyalah Suju yang ber-13 aja bisa kehafal 5 hari doang), yaa walopun sering ketukar apalagi kalo mereka udah ngerubah tatanan rambut. Bias author dari awal kenal SNSD ga pernah berubah yaitu Im YoonA, yeah iam YoonAddict. But, i’m fallin love with all girls. They so amazing.

SNSD termasuk GB yang paling banyak antifans-nya. Apalagi saat mereka awal debut, wuiih AF-nya bejibun. Puncaknya yaa saat dream concert 2008. Saia gatau kenapa dan alasan apa SNSD banyak banged antifans-nya. Tapi kebanyakan AF hanya membenci salah satu atau beberapa member saja. Fanbase SNSD termasuk yang paling besar dan hampir menyaingi fanbase TVXQ dan Suju. Belum lagi fanbase member perorangan. SNSD juga termasuk kedalam kategori 50 orang-orang yang paling berpengaruh di Korea Selatan.

Dan MV-MV SNSD di account youtube SMEnt, jumlah viewersnya selalu melejit hingga jutaan viewers, bahkan MV Oh!, Gee dan Mr. Taxi Dance Version termasuk MV Girlband yang paling banyak di tonton di seluruh dunia. Di pertengahan tahun 2011, SNSD sukses mengadakan tour Jepang mengiringi kesuksesan mereka atas penjualan album perdana Jepang mereka.  Setelah masa promo The Boys di Korea, SNSD dipersiapkan debut di Amerika bulan November ini.
